Tim Floyd gets angry, gets tossed, security gets involved

Not long ago, Tim Floyd was the voice of reason when things ran amok. (Well, at least in a casino.)

Wednesday night ended that.

The UTEP coach was so animated during an 83-76 loss to East Carolina that security had to escort him off the court after he was ejected for a pair of technical fouls. As if that wasn’t enough, assistant Phil Johnson also got the boot soon after.

But why describe the scene when you can watch video?

“I think it was a coaching box violation,” Floyd said afterward. “I had my big toe out of the box, received a warning, turned my back and walked to the bench and got a technical.

“I’d never seen (the official who issued all the technicals) before and I don’t know who he is. I’ve always earned my technicals and I didn’t feel like I earned it.”

The Miners dropped to 20-8 overall and 8-5 in Conference USA. Just a week ago, it led the standings. Now, any hopes of an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament are kaput.

No wonder Floyd lost it.
