A head coach in Virginia named Greenberg suspended for the season

Its not often that you see a team with a 5-20 record get hit with sanctions, but that happened to Radford yesterday.

It wasn’t the school that got hit, it was head coach Brad Greenberg, the brother of Virginia Tech head coach Seth Greenberg”

Radford University has suspended men’s basketball coach Brad Greenberg for the last four regular-season games for NCAA violations tied to impermissible team travel and associated extra benefits for ineligible player Masse Doumbe.

“My actions, which I know were in error, resulted in NCAA violations and I regret my decisions,” Greenberg, whose team is 2-13 in the Big South this season, said in a statement. “I apologize to the team, our administration and supporters of Radford University basketball.”

“Once we learned of the violations, we immediately contacted the Big South Conference and NCAA offices and imposed what we believe are appropriate sanctions at this time,” Radford athletic director Robert Lineburg said in a statement. “A thorough investigation of the violations is currently being conducted by the NCAA.”

The ironic part?

The poorly behaved brother who coaches a low-major has been to more NCAA Tournaments the past three seasons than the Head Hokie.
