This should be music to Rick Pitino’s ears: Karen Cunigan Sypher won’t get a new trial.
Sypher was convicted in August of extortion, lying to the FBI and retaliation against a witness after allegedly seeking millions in cash, cars and a house from the Louisville coach. If he complied, she would stay quiet about a one-night stand in a Louisville restaurant back in 2003.
She claimed that he former attorney, James Earhart, was ineffective and that she had new evidence that would warrant a new trial. But U.S. District Judge Charles R. Simpson III disagreed.
Sypher is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 18.
