There’s no study to confirm this, but I’m pretty sure reading Tuesday Truths makes you smarter. Well, smarter with what matters in college hoops.
That’s what’s crucial, right?
This week’s version detailed an interesting aspect of the conference races – they’re all basically between two teams. The records may not show it, but John Gasaway’s work with efficiency margins shows that nearly every league has two teams better than everyone else.
North Carolina’s right behind Duke. Same with Kansas and Texas, Washington and Arizona, Xavier and Duquesne, and SDSU and BYU. The records may not always reflect it, but they’re all playing about the same right now.
The perplexing ones are the Big Ten (where Wisconsin’s more efficient than Ohio State) and the Missouri Valley (it’s Wichita State and nobody else). How Missouri State is hanging with the Shockers is beyond me.
Also strange? The Colonial. George Mason is crushing the league in EM, but VCU’s tied atop the standings.
Something to keep in mind as league play progresses.
