Rating the impacts of new coaches

It’s easy to see that John Calipari’s been a massive coaching improvement over Billy Gillispie. Kentucky’s won more games, played better, etc. etc.

But what about Buzz Williams replacing Tom Crean at Marquette? Tony Bennett following Dave Leitao at Virginia? How have they fared?

Dan Hanner from Yet Another Basketball Blog broke down how several schools have fared under their new coaches. The positive impacts: Kentucky, Rutgers, Colorado, St. John’s, Cal, Iowa, Georgia, Marquette, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall and Oregon State.

That leaves quite a sizable list for negative impacts.

Clemson, Alabama, Virginia, Providence, South Carolina, Oregon and Boston College just start the list. There are 10 other schools on his list.

The most surprising inclusion? Sean Miller at Arizona. But that’s mostly because Miller’s season and a half of work can’t begin to match five seasons of Lute Olson.

Now that’s a list worth further study. See for yourself.
