Wednesday’s slate and what to watch

Syracuse has never lost five straight games during Jim Boeheim’s 34-year coaching tenure. That it could happen after tonight’s game at UConn is sending shockwaves through the Orange fan base.

That’s a delicate subject Ken Davis broached earlier, to which I added my two cents here.

So how about a UConn angle? Kemba Walker’s recent shooting struggles have been overlooked because of Jeremy Lamb’s emergence and a few clutch plays by Walker. But he needs a big game as much as the Orange need a win.

And that satisfies our downer portion of What to Watch.

Duke at Maryland, 9 p.m. ET (ESPN): The Terps usually have this game circled on the calendar before the season even begins. Now there’s a chance to hand Duke its second straight loss? They’re gonna be amped in College Station.

Marquette at Villanova, 7 p.m. (ESPNU): The Eagles are 2-4 on the road this season, with wins coming at Wisconsin Milwaukee and Rutgers. Meanwhile, the Wildcats (17-4) have lost three of their last four. This is my way of saying I’m not sure what to expect in this game.

Missouri at Oklahoma State, 9 p.m. (ESPN2): It’s a bad time for the Tigers to get their second road win of the season. When you’re talking about a winter wonderland, the advantage goes to the home team. Even if said home team has lost five of its last six.

B YU at Wyoming, 8 p.m. (mtn): A Casper Star-Tribune blog posed this question on Tuesday: Is Jimmer Fredette the most hyped player to play at the Double-A? I remember much ado about Shawn Bradley (mostly as an overhyped string bean) and Keith Van Horn earning some acclaim. But perhaps it’s when Pervis Ellison and Louisville came to Laramie the year after winning the national title. Yeah, that might qualify.
