Utah goes old school, but fails to charm Boylen

spt-110201-utah-unis_standard

Utah sporting some familiar uniforms on Saturday. If you followed the Utes back in the ‘60s.

To honor the 50th anniversary of their 1960-61 squad that reached the Final Four, Utah brought out some clean, simple uniforms with UTAH across the front and no names in the back.

It’s kind of a cool thing, too. No individuals. Just a “team.”

But they lost to Colorado State, 74-68.

No wonder coach Jim Boylen isn’t making any uniforms switches permanent. From the Deseret News:

“I think we’re the Runnin’ Utes and like that name for us,” he said. “I’m thankful we got a chance to wear (the throwback jerseys) but they will not be our uniform for next year.”

Still, I think they should put the unis to the test and break ‘em out again for the Mountain West tournament. Then see if any magic rubs off.
