We’ve all got Jimmer Mania. But does he?

Jimmer Mania is sweeping the country.

BYU senior Jimmer Fredette – you know, the guy who earned props from Kevin Durant as “the best scorer in the world!! – had nearly 1,300 articles written about him since torching San Diego State for 43 points Wednesday night. He’s easily college basketball’s hottest name since Stephen Curry charmed NCAA tournament fans in 2008.

But who is he?

Well, that’s easy enough to track down. Prep star from Glens Falls, N.Y., close to his brother T.J. and passed on the NBA draft last season to return for his senior year. That’s easy.

Perhaps we should focus on who Jimmer isn’t.

This story from Jason Franchuk of the Provo Daily Herald touches on that very subject, noting Jimmer’s reaction to the sheer delight of fans flocking to him Wednesday night and how he remains a modest, approachable figure despite the adulation. It’d be easy to be skeptical of his smile or easy-going nature and write it off as act, but it’s not. It’s just Jimmer.

After beating the country’s fourth-ranked team, he credited his teammates for doing a nice job of setting screens and rebounding -- in essence it was as if they set him up for the big game, rather than him doing it as a bailout.

And you could say he comes off as convincing, except that implies that somehow he has polished his “act.”

No, that’s just who he is.

The world isn’t ending. But it doesn’t seem that Fredette’s persona is, either.

He still is basically the same guy that couldn’t even get a starting spot at BYU as a freshman.

No matter how points Jimmer scores or how many awards he wins, remaining humble might be his greatest skill. Don’t lose that, Jimmer. It’s one of the biggest reasons why people love you.

Well, that and your jump shot.
