Basketball on an aircraft carrier? Brilliant!

Basketball on an aircraft carrier. That’s an idea Bill Veeck would love.

A Veterans Day showdown between North Carolina and Michigan State will take place on an aircraft carrier, according to InsideCarolina.com.

“It hasn’t been announced yet, but we’re supposed to be playing Michigan State in San Diego on an aircraft carrier on Veterans Day next year,” Williams said on his radio show.

The Raleigh News & Observer confirmed the game with UNC senior associate athletics director Larry Gallo.

“We have not received a contract yet, and there are a lot of parties involved,’’ Gallo said. “We’ve got ourselves and Michigan State, the U.S. government and a promoter-type person. So we’re still sitting tight. … All indications are that all systems are go, although contractually, nothing has been finalized, yet.”

Speculation is that it’ll be on the deck of the USS Reagan, but that’s still to be decided.
