Green Bay player sets world record for half-court shots

Those halftime contests where fans attempt to make a shot from half-court? Yeah, they usually stink. Never seen one where a shooter made it, or even came close.

Here’s hoping Eric Valentin starts entering.

A walk-on guard at Green Bay, Valentin is almost automatic at half-courters. The guy makes Jimmer Fredette look like Derrick Nix. Check out his attempt at breaking the world record for half-court shots.

Go back and watch it again. Valentin makes 8-of-19 shots, including the walk-off. And he did it on just his fourth attempt of filming.

“I was shocked the last shot went in, especially since I rushed it,” Valentin told Jeff Eisenberg of The Dagger. “I really had three shots to try to make eight and I blew the first two, so I tried to get that one off just in time and I was really surprised that I made it.”

Not the Green Bay coaches. They persuaded Valentin to go for the record after watching a YouTube video of him hitting six half-court shots in a minute. And he pulled it off during a 45-minute window before team dinner that night. Not bad, kid.

“Now that everybody’s catching wind that I set a record, it’s really a cool thing,” Valentin told Eisenberg. “I think it’s something I’ll remember the rest of my life.”
