Hoops fans know about Robbie Hummel’s knee, but serious injuries have affected athletes on the Boilermakers football, volleyball and women’s basketball teams, among others. In all, nine have hurt their knees since Hummel ripped up his in February.
That’s the start of a series of articles by the West Lafayette Journal & Courier examining the causes, consequences and costs of ACL injuries.
It promises to be a must-read, too. Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke’s as intrigued as anyone.
“If you look at the current time frame, it’s out of whack. If you look at the longer time frame, it’s not. OK, that makes good sense.
“But I’m sitting here saying, Hummel, KK Houser -- you keep going through the list. I understand what the statistics say, but I’m still concerned,” he told the paper.
