Baylor adds Gary Franklin, figures he can take Dunn’s shots

Good thing LaceDarius Dunn will be out of eligibility next season. Baylor wouldn’t have enough shots to go around with him and Gary Franklin in the same backcourt.

The Bears announced Wednesday the former Cal guard would be transferring to Waco, where he’ll sit out the spring and fall 2011 semesters. The 6-2 freshman started 11 of Cal’s first 13 games and averaged 8.2 points in just over 25 minutes a game.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Baylor basketball program,” Franklin said in a release. “I can’t wait to get on the floor and start making an impact with my new teammates.”

That should read “start shooting while my teammates watch.” Franklin’s listed as a point guard, but he hoisted more one out of every four shots for Cal. That wouldn’t have worked with Dunn (who takes one out of every three shots for Baylor now), but could with forwards Quincy Acy and Anthony Jones.

Here’s coach Scott Drew in next year’s huddle: “Gary, you chuck it up there. Quincy, Anthony, get the rebound dunk. Repeat as often as necessary. Now I gotta go recruit.”

Now, if Quincy Miller doesn’t mind, Drew may actually have something.
