Tough day for Utah to focus on a breakthrough

Utah’s lost six straight, but maintains that despite difficulties playing “defense and rebounding” they’re close to turning it around.

“We have a good basketball team . . . We are close but we’ve got to breakthrough,” Utah coach Jim Boylen told the Deseret News. “This business is about breaking through and we’ve got to.”

Might want to postpone that thought until Wednesday. BYU’s coming to town Tuesday night.

Sure, the Utes (7-9) hung with San Diego State until falling 71-62 on Saturday. But they’ve dropped three straight and six of the last seven to their in-state rivals. And this year’s version is probably the best of the last five years.

The line’s 12.5. Kenpom.com predicts a 16-point BYU win. Just saying, there’s nothing wrong with focusing on the rest of the season after the schedule gets a little easier.
