Arizona and Stanford knew Sunday’s game wasn’t huge in the scheme of things. Not in Tucson. Now right now.
But a 67-57 Wildcats win might’ve been a small gift to the area.
“Hopefully in some small way, today’s game had, in a way, a healing effect on our community,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said in his postgame news conference, “where maybe all of us can take our mind off something for a brief moment and kind of be together for a different purpose. It’s not easy on anybody.”
I wasn’t at the game, nor do I live in Tucson, so I won’t be writing anything about the scene. I’m not Joe Posnanski, so I won’t be doing anything about the healing power of sports. (Hopefully Joe’s on that.)
I’m just noting that a game was played and that those involved knew it was a good thing. So thanks, guys.
“If anything, I think it made both teams want to get out there and play even harder given the tragedy,” Stanford’s Jeremy Green said. “There are other things more important and bigger than basketball.”
