Friday’s Morning Shootaround: Cincy’s Crosstown Blowout

No. 25 Cincinnati 66, Xavier 46: See here.

No. 7 Villanova 83, South Florida 71: Corey Stokes scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half to help the Wildcats pull away from the Bulls. Dominic Cheek added 17 points, and the two combined to go 9-9 from deep. Corey Fisher’s scoring numbers still aren’t where people would like them to be, but last night he had 12 points, six assists, and five steals with just one turnover. Combine that with the 16 points and nine assists Jay Wright got out of Maalik Wayns, and I think he will be happy with his back court.

No. 20 Illinois 88, Northwestern 63: Well, that was over quickly. Illinois hit their first six three pointers and ran out to a 30-10 leading before Northwestern even knew what him them. The lead pushed to 49-24 at the half and swelled to 30 at times in the second half. Demetri McCamey led sixplayers in double figures with 14 points.

Stanford 55, Arizona State 41: Don’t look now, but Stanford is now the only undefeated team in the Pac-10 not named Washington. What makes this win all the more impressive is that not only did Trent Lockett for ASU, but Jeremy Green had just seven points on 2-10 shooting.

Washington 87, Oregon 69: Playing their first game without Abdul Gaddy in the lineup, the Huskies struggled with Oregon for a while, but they dominated the last 12 minutes and got another impressive performance from freshman Terrence Ross, who had 25 points filling in Gaddy’s minutes.

Arizona 73, Cal 71: Derrick Williams is just so difficult to guard. He moves well without the ball, he can use the bounce to get by you, he has post moves, he can rebound, and he can shoot. There are so many different ways he can score, but what he does best is get to the foul line; its why he is such an efficient player. Its just a shame he plays out west without a supporting cast. No one knows who he is.

Washington State 84, Oregon State 70: Klay Thompson had 29 points, 10 boards, and five assists as he and the Cougars put an end to Oregon State’s 2-0 Pac-10 start.

Boise State 102, San Jose State 101 4OT: Yeah, this one was crazy. I’m not going to go through all the details, but at the end of the third overtime, LaShard Anderson his a three that he thought ended the game at the buzzer. But, since there was a 1.2 second differential between the shot and the game clock, officials reviewed it and determined that the shot came before the game ended but after the shot clock expired. It went to a fourth OT where Anderson, who had 31 points, hit two free throws with 35 seconds left for the win.
