Fare-thee-well, Mac Court

Poor Mac Court. It wasn’t enough for the nation’s second-oldest college hoops court to be rendered irrelevant by a glittering new $227 million arena.

But it had to end on a loss. Sorry, old boy.

Arizona State’s 60-55 win Saturday ruined any sendoff Oregon might’ve had for McArthur Court, the Ducks’ home since 1927. Only Fordham had an older gym.

“We’re disappointed we couldn’t close this place out with a win,” Oregon senior Joevon Catron told the Oregonian.

Maybe the women’s team can go out on a better note. They play a pair of games before the gym becomes a permanent home for Oregon volleyball and various club teams.

So forget Saturday’s result, Oregon fans. There were other things to cheer for. Like a rousing cheer for former Ducks guard Aaron Brooks, or when fans got to shoot 3s after the game. Or remember better days of Oregon hoops, like when the Ducks beat No. 1 UCLA three different times (including twice against John Wooden’s Bruins).

Then again, it’s hard to feel sorry for a team moving to an arena with a huge honking video screen and locker rooms nicer than my house.

And besides, the school’s focused on other things right now
