Josh Selby’s scored 39 points, made 8 of 12 attempts from beyond the arc and made significant improvements on defense.
Enough with coming off Kansas’ bench. Time to see what he can do as a starter.
“He deserves to be out there,” Jayhawks coach Bill Self told Tully Corcoran of the Topeka Capital-Journal.
Self previously said Selby would have to play his way into a starting role, which means either Tyrel Reed or Brady Morningstar will head to the bench. (I’d lean toward Reed as a starter.) Tyshawn Taylor will remain the primary ball-handler for now, though Selby’s likely to take over those duties at some point.
It’s a good time to make the switch, too. Kansas plays host to Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, then has UMKC before travelling to Ann Arbor for a Jan. 5 matchup against Michigan. The more time Selby gets with the starting five before Big 12 play begins on Jan. 12, the more seamless the transition will be.
Not that No. 3 Kansas has too many issues …
