Thursday’s slate and what to watch

There’s good news for college hoops fans hoping for more upsets in what looked to be a slow week.

And that’s bad news for Missouri.

Point guard Michael Dixon was suspended indefinitely, meaning he’ll miss Thursday’s game against Oral Roberts. The sophomore violated an unspecified team rule, which means the Tigers won’t have his 10.7 points or team-high 4.3 assists. He’s also one of two Mizzou players to start every game.

So, I’ll just go ahead and write down an upset tomorrow night of No. 13 Mizzou. Or not.

Dixon’s suspension means more playing time for freshman Phil Pressey, who isn’t as polished offensively, but quicker on defense. Call it a wash. And call it an easy Tigers victory.

Still perfect: Northwestern’s also headed for an easy win Thursday. So why care about their matchup with American? Because the Wildcats are 6-0 and off to their best start since 1993-94 when they opened 9-0. For a team that’s never (!) made the NCAA tournament, a 7-0 start is a big deal. Especially since Big Ten play is just two weeks away.
