This holiday season’s must-have gift? Bill Self

spt-101215-bill-self_standard

Get that special someone what they really want this Christmas. No, not the diamond bracelet or the Lexus with the big freaking bow.

Get them the gift of Bill Self.

Available on eBay is a 15-minute Skype call with the Kansas coach. For a few hundred bucks ($330.00 as of Wednesday night), he’ll be the highlight of your loved one’s Christmas Eve. You’ll probably be second. But hey, ‘tis better to give than receive, right?

The starting price was $100, but has grown since it was posted Tuesday. All proceeds benefit Self’s Assists Foundation, which helps Lawrence-area youths.

“I saw on Twitter that Sarah Silverman was doing the same thing, and I thought that would be a cool thing for us to do if coach would agree to do it,” Erin Zimney, director of the Assists Foundation, told Jeff Eisenberg of The Dagger. “Not only would it raise money, it also connects him to some of the KU fans that may not live around here and have a chance to interact with him.”

If it works.

Self initially expressed concern about the format, asking Zimney about Skype, “Do I know how to do that.” She promised his son would be nearby to assist.

If he needs an assist, why wouldn’t he just ask Tyshawn Taylor? He’s putting up 6.3 a game.

(Thanks, Jeff Eisenberg)
