Rick Pitino’s not coaching Puerto Rico just yet.
A report surfaced Monday night that Louisville’s coach would be leading the Puerto Rico national team in an effort to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
But school spokesman Kenny Klein told Sporting News and other media outlets that Pitino “hasn’t taken it. He hasn’t indicated his level of interest or a timetable.”
Adding to that, Puerto Rico federation president Carlos Beltran didn’t confirm or deny the deal.
If Pitino does take the job, expect the Cardinals to receive a significant recruiting bump from the region. That would be reason enough to spend a summer in the Caribbean.
