Montgomery hopes you ignore early records (like Cal’s)

The first month of the college hoops season can be enlightening (re: UConn) or maddening (re: North Carolina). The one consistent is that teams are inconsistent.

Ask Mike Montgomery. He simply ignores records this time of year.

“Records mean nothing because of who you play,” Cal’s coach told the San Jose Mercury News. “Unless you go to Maui or something, you’ve got home games against people you should beat. And that’s who people are beating.

“If you look around, you could look at some 5-0s that don’t mean anything, and some 2-3s and say they’re still pretty good.”

That’s probably smart of Montgomery. You wouldn’t want anyone to study any one result too much
