Kentucky’s freshmen aren’t as precocious as last season’s group, at least when it comes to overall performance. Terrence Jones, Brandon Knight & Co. are good, but they’re not on par with John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.
The most recent example? An uneven win against Boston U on Tuesday. From John Clay of the Lexington Herald-Leader:
OK, so the young ‘Cats aren’t quite hitting the stride. But don’t say Jones and Knight are struggling.
In fact, they’re producing better than any other freshmen in Kentucky history. Their current numbers are damn impressive:
Jones: 20.7 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 2.5 bpg, 1.5 spg
Knight: 17.3 ppg, 3.3 apg
At that rate, the guys from Kentucky Sports Radio project the pair to re-write much of the freshman marks, including points, rebounds and blocks, and to finish among the top three in assists and steals. In fact, Jones and Knight could post the top two scoring totals in freshman history.
That’s what I call doin’ work.
