Choosing a college? Here’s a list of top hoops schools for fans

U.S. News & World Report has a list for everything. Best hospitals. Best future careers. Best Chinese food in SoDo. So it’s no surprise the news magazine produced one for the “best college for basketball fans.”

Hey, if nothing else, it’s an easy list. An easy one to predict, too.

Among the 10 are the six most decorated programs in men’s hoops history – Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA, Duke and Indiana – along with Big East powers Connecticut and Syracuse.

The other two aren’t so easy to guess: Butler and Penn. (Added bonus? Both are damn fine schools.)

The Quakers have a long, storied tradition of ruling the Ivy league, racking up wins and has the Big Five rivalries (along with that 1979 Final Four). Butler gets points for its recent success, but I gotta believe the Bulldogs got a big boost for their run to last year’s title game. This list comes out in 2009, they might not have made it.

(And, in case you’re wondering, it’s not ridiculous to use this as a factor in choosing a college. That’s one of the reasons why I transferred to Kansas – just in time for Paul Pierce to bolt to the NBA. Sigh.)
