I’m tired just thinking about a 7 overtime game ...

Lance Spratling must be exhausted today.

The Southern Vermont guard played 75 minutes of hoops last night, which was every minutes of his team’s seven overtime loss to Skidmore. That’s right, seven overtimes.

(whistles)

Someone get Lance a rubdown. Actually, it sounds as if everyone left the game dog tired.

“By the end, it was complete exhaustion,” Skidmore coach Joe Burke told the AP.

The 128-123 outcome was the third seven-overtime game in NCAA history, and the first at the D-III level. Cincinnati beat Bradley on Dec. 21, 1981, while Black Hills beat Yankton on Feb. 18, 1956 for the D-II record.

As you’d expect, the game set or tied a slew of records.

  • The teams combined for 166 rebounds, an all-time NCAA record. (Indiana and Michigan shared the previous mark of 152.)
  • Skidmore’s 69 points after regulation was an all-timer, as were the combined points of 133 in OT.
  • The coolest stat? The number of people who watched the game was 142. The number of missed shots was 145.

As for Spratling, he finished with 31 points on 10-of-40 shooting and 0-for-13 beyond the arc. All in a night’s work.
