Bruce Pearl to be suspended for eight SEC games

We finally have the ruling on Bruce Pearl.

Well, from the SEC at least.

Today, SEC commissioner Mike Slive sent a letter to Tennessee on Thursday that Pearl will be suspended from coaching the Volunteers, who are 3-0 but have a couple of unimpressive victories on their resume, during the first eight games of the SEC schedule. He is, however, allowed to coach the team during the remainder of their non-conference schedule and will be allowed to run practices during that time. He just won’t be on the sideline come gameday.

Its interesting timing to say the least.

Why not announce this before the season started?

Speculation is easy -- maybe the SEC wanted to get Cam Newton out of the headlines, even if it is for just a few hours. Does anyone else see the irony that suspending a basketball coach for recruiting violations midseason is considered an upgrade in media attention?
