Baylor’s now the place to be for top recruits

Scott Drew is giving John Calipari a little recruiting competition. Given the school choices -- Baylor can’t compete with Kentucky in tradition, fan support, facilities, exposure -- Drew may be winning.

Baylor snagged two more elite prospects, this time from the class of 2011. Quincy Miller (rated as the No. 5 overall prospect) and Deuce Bello (a Top 50 prospect) committed to the Bears Thursday. Paired with 2010 recruit Perry Jones (Top 10) and 2012 prospect Isaiah Austin (the No. 1 guy in that class), it’s an impressive haul for a school that just six years ago couldn’t even play a non-conference game due to NCAA violations.

And look at ‘em now.

Miller gives the Bears a versatile, do-everything type of guy. He’s 6-8, can play guard or the wing and is an elite scorer. A taller version of LaceDarius Dunn, if you will. And Bello may be the best dunker of anyone in the class of 2011. That makes him perfect for Baylor. (He and Quincy Acy will entertain the crowd for hours.)

Now they’re all headed to Waco, Texas. Goes to show you never know what’s going to become the hot spot in college hoops. Heck, you’d never even guess Baylor was currently dealing with NCAA recruiting violations. Can we get Scott Drew to Michigan and sell the rest of the world on American-made cars?

Mike Miller’s also on Twitter @BeyndArcMMiller, usually talkin’ hoops. Click here for more.
