An impossible task awaits UNI’s players

Looking for a challenge? Try filling Ali Farokhmanesh’s shoes.

The Northern Iowa guard drilled two clutch 3-pointers in the Panthers’ run to the Sweet 16 last year - first against UNLV, then against top seed Kansas - landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated and secured a spot in the clutch shooter Hall of Fame. (Not a real Hall of Fame.)

Anyone ready to take that job? Jake Koch says he wants it. Point guard Kwadzo Ahelegbe is a good option (and would continue the spelling nightmares for us media types).

But it might be too big for one player. Sean Keeler from the Des Moines Register thinks that’s the way to go. UNI coach Ben Jacobon isn’t sure yet.

“Could Kwadzo be that guy? You bet he could,” Jacobson mused. “Do we have four or five other guys that have enough experience that they could be the guy to make a game-winning shot, that back-breaker that you need with a minute and a half left?”

If there are four or five other guys capable of hitting shots Farokhmanesh did, Jacobson should start making NCAA tournament plans right now.
