Sean Miller’s restocked the talent at Arizona, but he has a message for anyone who loafs at practice: either play hard or get used to the bench.
“I think we have 11 or 12 players who all think they’re going to play – and three of them are wrong,” Miller said at Arizona’s media day, per the Arizona Republic. “That’s a good thing – having that highly competitive environment and (having players) saying, ”I’m going to be ready to practice, because if I’m not that’s going to hurt my opportunity to play in the game.’ “
Some coaches are content to play with their lineups and toy with their rotation, especially if they have talent to burn. Miller taking the opposite tact can only help the team’s cohesion as he searches for a replacement for departed point guard Nic Wise.
Don’t believe me? The players are already on board.
“We’ve already been competing like crazy, and it’s a great atmosphere,” Brendon Lavender said. “It’s only going to make us better for this year.”
