Hokies’ 2011 NCAA tourney hopes take a hit

Virginia Tech just missed last season’s NCAA tournament. Some bad luck may derail Seth Greenberg’s team again this season.

The Hokies announced Thursday that senior forward J.T. Thompson will miss the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee during a pickup hoops game. He’s not their a primary weapon - those are Malcolm Delaney, Dorenzo Hudson or Jeff Allen - but he’s one of their most important in crunch time.

According to Patrick Stevens at D1course.com, Virginia Tech played 16 games last season decided by 10 points or less. Only Delaney and Hudson were on the floor more often than Thompson.

When you’re trying to return to the Big Dance, Thompson’s the kind of player that could be the difference.
