No longer a consensus No. 1 prospect for ’11

Let the rankings arguments commence.

Rivals.com and Scout.com both updated their overall rankings for the class of 2011 on Tuesday - and both settled on a new No. 1 player, but not the same guy. (Kentucky-committed wing Michael Gilchrist had been the consensus No. 1.)

Scout.com’s Top 10

Scout tabbed Anthony Davis, a 6-9 post player from Chicago as their new top guy. Davis, who plans on attending Kentucky, shot through the Top 10 ranks this summer thanks to a growth spurt and a non-stop motor on defense. Simply put, he wowed Scout with his defensive ability and mobility.

Rivals thinks the top spot belongs to Austin Rivers, a sharpshooting 6-4 guard from Winter Park, Fla. (He hasn’t settled on a college yet, though most think he’ll choose Duke.) Rivers leapfrogged Gilchrist and Indianapolis guard Marquis Teague for that No. 1 spot thanks to some impressive scoring displays.

As for the rest of the Top 10 from both sites, there is some overlap. Davis, Rivers, Gilchrist, Teague, Quincy Miller, James McAdoo and Brad Beal were in both Top 10s. Not much debate among them.

Then there’s the rest, where’s there’s some differing opinions.

LeBryan Nash is 4 on Rivals, 11 on Scout. Adonis Thomas is 8 on Scout, 15 on Rivals. And those are the close ones. Myck Kabongo is 9 on Scout, 24 on Rivals. Josiah Turner is 10 on Rivals, 24 on Scout.

Then again, these are all five-star players. They’re all can’t-miss prospects no matter where they fall in the Top 25, right?
