Izzo nixes Cavs, staying at Michigan St. 'for life'

And there was much rejoicing in East Lansing.

After nearly two weeks of speculation, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo announced Tuesday that he’s passing on the chance to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers. As an added bonus for the Spartan faithful, he added this nugget: “I’m pleased to say I am here for life at Michigan State.”

True, Izzo’s always said a person should never say never … but that sounds like never to me.

Never one to shy from speaking honestly, Izzo even issued a blanket apology for taking so long to make up his mind. I think it’s for the fans and not the media, but I’m sure the media will take it.

“It’s been an agonizing week as I tried to make a decision about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Izzo said. “I apologize for the time the process has taken, but sometimes there are opportunities that come about that must be thoroughly examined.”

Up next? Getting the Spartans ready for another Final Four run.

Mike Miller’s also on Twitter, usually talkin’ hoops.
