‘This is going to change the landscape of college athletics ... maybe for the next 30 to 50 years’

While Michigan State fans anxiously await any rock-solid news about Tom Izzo’s future (Twitter may be the devil when it comes to coaching rumors), some Big 12 fans face an equally nerve-racking weekend (that previous Twitter statement applies here as well, but doubled).

Colorado’s already off to the Pac-10. Nebraska’s supposed to formally announce its move to the Big Ten today. The status for the rest of the conference? Fluid.

Check out this rundown from Thursday. At some point, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State all were reportedly considering moves to various spots, while Missouri, Kansas, Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa State have essentially been left fluttering in the wind.

It’s like Bill Self says in this video: “This is going to change the landscape for college athletics, not for the next five years, but maybe for the next 30 to 50 years.”

And that’s an intimidating thought.

Whatever these conference presidents and school officials end up doing, I hope they do it right.

Mike Miller’s also on Twitter, usually talkin’ hoops.
