APR gives Kansas (some) good news

Everything’s not all bad in Kansas’ world. Sure, the Jayhawks may soon be without a conference and a rough game Wednesday left three players with three minor injuries.

But don’t get too excited. This is just a small bit of good news: KU’s athletes hit the books.

Kansas was one of three teams that finished with a perfect APR score among those who were in the final AP Top 25 (Butler and Michigan State were the other two). Almost makes you forget about the other stuff, right? No? Well then. Be a downer.

The APR - Academic Progress Rate - is how the NCAA measures classroom performance of every D-I. This year’s data was collected from 2005-06 through 2008-09. Seven of the 137 teams facing penalties come from BCS conferences and only two power conference schools, Colorado and Syracuse, were sanctioned.

The NCAA’s complete report is available here. Grab some coffee first.
