Ohio State and Chris Holtmann landed a key commitment on Tuesday morning, as five-star in-state prospect Alonzo Gaffney pledged to be a Buckeye.

Gaffney is a top 20 prospect in the Class of 2019, a lanky, 6-foot-9 forward that had been targeted by some of the biggest programs in college basketball. He has the kind of multi-positional versatility and upside that brought some of the biggest programs into the mix during the recruiting process.

In the end, Gaffney picked Ohio State over Michigan State and Georgetown.

This is big for Holtmann, whose goal when getting the Ohio State job was to lock down the borders of the state and keep the best native Ohioans at home. So far, it’s working, as Gaffney is the most talented recruit that Holtmann has gotten a commitment from to date.
