North Carolina’s Jalek Felton ‘suspended from the university’

North Carolina announced on Tuesday that freshman point guard Jalek Felton has been suspended.

The wording here is important, so I’ll just add the exact quote: “Jalek Felton has been suspended from the University and therefore is not currently eligible to participate in any University activities.”

The release also added that they cannot comment due to “federal privacy laws.”

It is unclear what happened to get Felton suspended, but it does appear that this is a situation that goes beyond the basketball team and the athletic department.

Felton is a five-star recruit and the nephew of former UNC star Ray Felton. He’s been UNC’s backup point guard, and with Seventh Woods still dealing with an injury, it is now on Joel Berry II to carry the load for the Tar Heels at the point. Berry is shooting 36.9 percent from the floor in league play, and UNC -- who has lost two straight and plays at No. 20 Clemson tonight -- will play Duke for the first time in nine days.

This thing could turn very quickly on the Tar Heels.
