Syracuse added a transfer on Thursday as East Carolina freshman Elijah Hughes has committed to the Orange.

The 6-foot-6 Hughes just finished his freshman season at East Carolina as he showed some promise, putting up 7.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game for the Pirates.

A native of Beacon, New York, Hughes will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules before having three seasons of eligibility remaining.

After the year sitting out, Hughes has a chance to be a solid rotation wing for Syracuse, but he’ll need to show more consistency with his shot. While Hughes has the makings of a potentially good jumper, he only shot 27 percent from three-point range and 34 percent overall from the field last season.
