Duke’s injured freshmen will sit out against Michigan State

Duke has spent the first few weeks of this season without five-star freshmen Marques Bolden, Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum as all three players are battling injury.

All three players will remain out for the Blue Devils’ game against Michigan State on Tuesday as head coach Mike Krzyzewski confirmed to reporters on Saturday that they still need more time to recover.

This isn’t a particularly surprising development, as Duke doesn’t have a huge reason to rush those guys into the lineup with how much depth they have. b

But potentially more troubling for Duke is the lingering toe issue for junior guard Grayson Allen. Allen had a stellar outing in Duke’s win over Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon, but he sat out the final 12 minutes of that contest after landing awkwardly on his foot.

Toe injuries can be tough to fully heal and it seems like Allen keeps aggravating that injury trying to play through it these first few weeks of the season. No prognosis was given for Allen after the game, so I expect him to take the floor against Michigan State, but he might not be close to 100 percent, which could be another issue for Duke to contend with.
