Morehead State has suspended coach Sean Woods “resulting from complaints received” and pending an investigation, the school announced Tuesday evening.

The school “has begun an investigation involving the head basketball coach,” athletic director Brian Hutchinson said in a statement. “While we continue through the formal process, we believe it is prudent to suspend the coach until the investigation is finished.”

The Eagles are currently 2-2 and next play Friday at Pittsburgh. Woods’ assistant Preston Spradlin will take over the program as interim head coach during the investigation.

“We have full confidence in Preston,” Hutchinson’s statement said, “and his ability to lead our student-athletes both on and off the court.”

This isn’t the first time that Woods has been suspended by Morehead State. He missed one game in 2012 due to his treatment of a player, Devon Atkinson, after he fouled out of a game against Kentucky.

Woods, now in his fifth season at Morehead State has a 77-65 record at the school, and was given a contract extension in June that extended him through the 2019-20 season.

Morehead State said it would have no further comment until the investigation is completed.
