Louisville lands four-star Class of 2018 guard

Louisville kept its recruiting momentum going on Saturday as they landed a commitment from four-star Class of 2018 guard Anfernee Simons.

Regarded as the No. 72 overall prospect in the Rivals Class of 2018 national rankings, the 6-foot-2 Simons is an explosive guard who can play on the ball and really score. Simons led the Under Armour Association’s 16U division in scoring this year as he put up 22.9 points per game while shooting 43 percent from three-point range.

The commitment of Simons is also interesting because he comes from the Team Breakdown grassroots program. Louisville graduate assistant Jordan Fair was formerly with that program and that undoubtedly helped the Cardinals land a commitment here.

Simons is Louisville’s first Class of 2018 recruit as he follows in the footsteps of a strong four-man Class of 2017 recruiting haul. Even with Louisville dealing with the fallout of the Katina Powell scandal, head coach Rick Pitino and the program are still recruiting at a very high level as they’ve been able to land numerous top-100 prospects.
