Notre Dame gets top-50 commit

The first commitment of Mike Brey’s 2017 recruiting class is a significant one.

DeMatha High product DJ Harvey pledged Tuesday to the Fighting Irish to gives Brey a consensus top-50 recruit to start off his next recruiting class.

The commitment comes on the heels of Brey, himself a DeMatha grad, having an in-home with Harvey following a weekend official visit to Alabama. Harvey made his official to South Bend earlier this month.

He’s a huge first step to Brey’s 2017 class, which will be replacing three seniors off this year’s roster. Perhaps most importantly will be replacing the production of forward V.J. Beachem, who averaged 12 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last year for the Irish.

Harvey also had offers from the likes of UConn, Texas and Arizona, among others.

Notre Dame is coming off a 24-12 season in which they made the Sweet 16.
