Xavier’s frontcourt depth has taken a hit with the departure of a freshman back north of the border.

Eddie Ekiyor, who enrolled at Xavier in December and redshirted, has left the school and enrolled at Carleton University in Ottawa, it was announced Thursday.

The 6-foot-9 power forward, an Ottawa native, chose the Musketeers last year over offers from Florida, Kansas State, Miami and a host of other Power 5 programs. He was a consensus top-150 player in the 2016 class.

Xavier will have some work to do with its frontcourt after Jaylen Reynolds turned pro this spring and James Farr graduating. Ekiyor’s departure doesn’t throw Xavier’s plans into disarray, but it does limit Chris Mack’s options up front.

Carleton went 16-3 last season, finishing second in the Ontario University Athletics North.
