Texas Tech landed an intriguing transfer on Monday as a source confirmed to NBCSports.com that DePaul transfer Tommy Hamilton IV will be a Red Raider.

The 6-foot-11 Hamilton is a talented big man and former top-100 talent who has had issues with his weight and motivation during his college basketball career.

As a junior, Hamilton averaged 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while also providing some stretch capabilities by shooting 44 percent from three-point range with 26 makes. But his minutes also heavily fluctuated during the season and he was suspended a game for a violation of team rules during the 2013-14 season.

New Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard will get Hamilton for two years, as he’ll sit a year and be eligible to play his senior season. It’ll be worth watching to see if Beard can get consistent production out of his new transfer because Hamilton can be a productive player when he’s motivated.
