On Monday evening, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino updated the status of a pair of his key big men heading into next season.
According to a blog post Pitino published, sophomore Ray Spalding “had minor groin surgery to alleviate a problem, which set him back in his strength and weight gain,” although Pitino specified that the injury is not a threat to his season, saying that Spalding should be “back in no time.”
The bigger concern may be Mangok Mathiang. In May, Pitino said that the 6-foot-11 center should be out for about six weeks, but in Monday’s blog post, his only update on the player was that Mathiang will be “out for the summer” and “ready for Nov. 1st”. Mathiang has a foot issue.
