Canisius head coach Jim Baron is retiring.

Baron, who is 62 years old, has been a Division I head coach for the last 29 seasons. He spent five years at St. Francis (PA) before a two-decade run in the Atlantic 10 with St. Bonaventure and Rhode Island.

The last four seasons, Baron was at Canisius. He coached his son, Billy, for three seasons -- his last year at Rhode Island and his first two seasons at Canisius -- and that was a major reason he’s decided to retire. Billy and Jim’s other son, Jimmy, both play for the same team in Europe -- Proximus Spirou Basket -- and he wants to be able to spend more time with them.

Associate head coach Pat Clarke is expected to take over as interim.
