Elliott Pitts’ time at Arizona is over.

The junior guard, who did not play in a game for the Wildcats after Dec. 5, will transfer, the school announced Tuesday night.

“Elliott Pitts has informed the athletics department that he intends to transfer from the University of Arizona for the upcoming school year to continue his education,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said in a statement released by the school. “We wish him well in the future.”

Pitts’ final season in Tucson was a bizarre one as he stepped away from the team entirely in February, citing “personal reasons” after watching from the sidelines for the previous two months. The circumstances regarding his absence have not yet been made public.

Pitts’ departure, given the how it unfolded over the previous months, certainly does not come as any sort surprise, and Miller has clearly been building his roster to absorb the departure. Arizona just signed Australian forward Keanu Pinder last week that put the Wildcats one over the allowable 13 scholarships.

Pitts, after sitting out this upcoming season under NCAA transfer rules, will have one year of eligibility remaining. Before leaving the team, he averaged 21.3 minutes per game last season.
