Paul Weir to be hired at New Mexico State

Paul Weir has been named the next head coach at New Mexico State.

Weir has spent the last nine years on the Aggie staff, five of them as Marvin Menzies’ associate head coach. The Aggies reached the NCAA tournament in five of those seasons. Menzies accepted the UNLV head coaching position after Chris Beard left for Texas Tech.

Weir beat out Oklahoma assistant Chris Crutchfield, Arizona assistant Joe Pasternack and Baylor assistant Jerome Tang for the gig.

NMSU went 23-11 last year, but the team’s top two returning players have both entered their name into the NBA Draft without hiring an agent.

A press conference to formally announce Weir will be held this evening.
