The college basketball offseason can be long and boring. But players from across the country are passing time by recording Instagram videos dancing to Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo” in a rapidly emerging viral trend that has grown to be quite entertaining.

“My Boo” was released in 1996 on some So So Def mixtape releases and eventually charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in the summer of ’96. The song remains popular, in-part, because it has been interpolated into some popular recent tracks like Ciara and Future’s “Body Party” and Pitbull and Lloyd’s “Secret Admirer.”

The recent “My Boo” dance videos started at Maryland, where Jared Nickens, Jaylen Brantley and Damonte Dodd began filming themselves dancing to the song on Instagram a few weeks ago. The trio hasn’t stopped as they recently recorded videos of them dancing in the locker room, the team’s offices and even in the middle of traffic.

But Maryland was merely the spark to ignite the flames of a new college basketball dance craze, as the Terps called on other schools to join the new movement.

Soon we saw video releases from Villanova, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall and Marquette.

Providence also joined in the on the fun with one of the best ones yet.

With the way players are tagging other programs to join in, we’ll likely see more “My Boo” dance videos on Instagram over the next few days.
