T.J. Otzelberger is expected to be hired as the next head coach at South Dakota State, sources told NBCSports.com.

An official announcement could come within the next 24 hours.

Otzelberger has been an assistant coach at Iowa State for eight of the last 10 years, with a two-year stint at Washington in between. He was in the mix as a replacement for Fred Hoiberg when Hoiberg left Ames for the Chicago Bulls, and he was also a finalist for the head coaching position at Milwaukee.

Otzelberger would be replacing Scott Nagy, who left the Jackrabbits for Wright State earlier this month.

SDSU went 26-8 last season and reached the NCAA tournament as champions of the Summit League.
