Ohio State received some bad news on Tuesday as sophomore Jae’Sean Tate is done for the season after having surgery on his shoulder. The team announced the news before it’s Tuesday night contest with Michigan State. Tate will have surgery on his left shoulder.

The 6-foot-4 wing was third on the Buckeyes in scoring at 11.7 points per game while he also averaged 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Tate was shooting 52 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range on the season. Arguably the team’s most important player, Tate was Ohio State’s leading scorer in Big Ten play and was registering double-doubles in recent games.

Without Tate in the lineup, the Buckeyes will go with freshman Mickey Mitchell in the lineup. Mitchell is a creative passer but he’s struggled to produce this season. Ohio State has won four consecutive games entering Tuesday’s important game against Michigan State.

Tate could be out up to six months as he recovers from the surgery.
