North Texas has landed a commitment from SMU transfer Keith Frazier, a source told NBCSports.com.

Frazier left the SMU program earlier this month due to issues that he had with the role that he played under head coach Larry Brown. A former McDonald’s All-American, the 6-foot-5 Frazier was averaging 11.9 points for the Mustangs this season.

Frazier has one season of eligibility remaining, and if he uses it in 2016-17, he won’t be eligible to play until the spring semester.

The postseason ban that SMU is currently facing stems from a violation committed in order to get Frazier eligible as a freshman. An administrative assistant in the program helped an assistant coach do some class work for Frazier when they were concerned about whether or not he’d make it through the NCAA’s eligibility center.

The news of Frazier’s commitment to North Texas was first reported by the Dallas Morning News.
